About:144-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Confirmation on trip details

Hello! A friend told me about the visa exemption and it could save quite a bit of money! I wanted to confirm my tentative itinerary before canceling my visa office appointment.

A: SEOUL --> SHANGHAI (SHA), potentially Korean Air
B: Staying in Shanghai 4 nights
C: SHANGHAI (PVG) --> VIENNA, potentially Austria Air

To confirm: A-B and B-C need to be non-stop/direct flights with no stopovers in just China or in any other country? Could I do C: Shanghai to Dubai (3 hour layover) to Vienna final destination leaving the country for example?
Will we be handed the blue 144-hour entry/departure form on the flight?

Thank you so much!

A-B and B-C routes need to be direct flights with no stopovers in just China. They are allowed to have stopovers in other countries, but the immediate airports before and after your entry in Shanghai cannot be in a same country. Route C is doable. You will be handed the blue form upon arrival at Shanghai.
