About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit FAQ

Helsinki > Shanghai (tourist visa) > Jakarta > Tokyo > Shanghai > Helsinki

I will first apply for a 30-day tourist visa, but I will leave China and travel in other Asian countries and enter again in Shanghai while possibly still having a valid visa, but will exceed 30 days. I already have a ticket to Europe afterwards.
Can I apply for transit visa even if I have a valid visa but will exceed 30 days?

Do you have a 2 entry visa?
If so, you're allowed to stay another 30 days in China.

Otherwise you can get use of the 144h twov (it's not a transit visa) for Tokyo - Shanghai - Helsinki (but keep in mind you're not allowed to leave the Shanghai area).
