About:24-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Transit in Shanghai Pudong between Helsinki and Ho Chi Minh

Hi I would like to ask about my case hopefully you could help me.
I booked a round trip flight from Helsinki to Shanghai Pudong Airport and a separated round trip flight from Shanghai Pudong to Ho Chi Minh Vietnam.
The comming flight
- Helsinki -> ShangHai pudong ( layer over 4 hours)
- Shanghai Pudong -> Ho Chi Minh ( so I need to come and collect luggages and then checkin and go to another flight)
The returning flight
- Ho Chi Minh -> Shanghai Pudong( layer over 18 hours, I booked a hotel near airport)
- Shanghai Pudong -> Helsinki
And I'm holding a Vietnamese passport
My question:
- in my coming flight do I need to apply for the temporary entry permit.?
- and will I need to notify the immigration at the airport in advance before the flights?
Thank you very much

Yen, there is no problem in your case because your transfers in Shanghai will be covered by 24 hour visa free transit both ways. In other words, you do not need any kind of visa and you do not have to announce your intention to transit via Shanghai to anybody. I recommend that you print out your flight tickets in order to speed up the entire process. Simply speaking, it is much easier to overcome all the formalities.

Upon your landing in Shanghai, the first thing that you will do is to approach 24/144 hour visa free transit counter where you will apply for a temporary entry permit in order to be allowed to cross the immigration because you will have to collect your luggage and perform brand new check-in for your onward flight. This application is free of any charge and here you will present your flight tickets and the most convenient way is to have them printed out and at hand. You will do that both times upon your landing in Shanghai. During your longer layover you can also present your accommodation booking confirmation.

After your permit is granted, you will head to the immigration and collect your luggage in order to make a new check-in. After you do that, you will cross the security, exit immigration and reach your gate for your onward flight. It seems a bit complicated, but in reality it is not.

I hope this helps and I wish you a pleasant journey.
