The first and the most important detail is that your itinerary is eligible for 24 hour visa free transit and you don't need any kind of visa.
You will print out your flight tickets and bring those printouts with you. Also, you will declare at check-in in Amsterdam that you will travel to Cebu via Guangzhou using 24 hour visa free transit. After a short check of your flight tickets, you will be allowed to board the plane. Also, you will inform yourself about the luggage policy, although I believe that your luggage will be tagged all the way to Cebu.
Assuming that you will travel on China Southern single (through) ticket you are eligible for a free accommodation in Guangzhou. You are advised to make a reservation for this accommodation online and to have a printout of this confirmation with you. You will not mention local hosts because that doesn't help at all.
Upon your landing in Guangzhou, you will approach 24 hour visa free transit counter where you will apply for a temporary entry permit to be allowed to exit the airport. Here you will present your free accommodation confirmation. It is hard to say whether you will be granted a temporary entry permit, but hopefully you will because of the airlines sponsored accommodation and the length of your layover. You have to know that the issuing of a permit is always upon discretion of immigration authorities, so be prepared to be denied a permit as well. Basically, that's it.
