About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit

As a USA citizen if I fly from Singapore to Shanghai for the weekend can I use the 72 hour visa free

My wife and I are retired and will be flying from Singapore to Shanghai on March 27th spend the weekend sightseeing in Shanghai and flying back to Singapore early on March 30th. Total time in China 64 hours.
Can we use the 72 hour visa free transit?

Of course not, because you are not in transit to a third country. You either need a visa or a different itinerary involving a third country.
