Petra, you are allowed to do that, under the following conditions:

- You can use 24 hour visa free transit and you have to carefully count your entire transit time in Shanghai. In other words, you will calculate your entire transit time from the scheduled arrival of your cruise in Shanghai, until your scheduled departure by plane from Shanghai. If your entire transit time is less than 24 hours, you will be eligible for 24 hour visa free transit and you don't need any kind of visa. Quite the contrary, if your entire transit time in Shanghai is longer by even just a minute than 24 hours, you will need a visa.

- Your cruise is not allowed to have its last port of call, immediately before Shanghai, in mainland China port.

- Your flight out of Shanghai is not allowed to have any additional landing of any kind within mainland China and in the country where your cruise will have its last port of call, immediately before Shanghai.

If your itinerary fulfills the above mentioned conditions, you will be definitely eligible for 24 hour visa free transit in Shanghai.
