About:Visa on Arrival

Shenzhen & Guangdong for 48 hours

Hello, I am planning to visit Shenzhen & Guangdong, arriving from Hong Kong, owning an EU passport and residency in Singapore. Is it enough to get the Shenzhen VOA or the China mainland visa?

Thank you!

I am fying to Hong Kong and then going to Shenzhen and Guangdong, so I will probably have to apply for the normal visa.
However, I need to book a ferry from Hong Kong to Shenzhen and back, but when I try to do a registration in order to purchase the ferry tickets, it doesn't work (doesn't accept my Singaporean number). What do you suggest me to do?

If you intend to visit just Shenzhen, then you can arrive at the border crossing between Hong Kong and mainland China (Shenzhen) where you will apply for a 5 day Shenzhen visa on arrival. Anyway, this visa limits you to just Shenzhen city limits and you are not allowed to proceed to other parts of Guangdong province, Guangzhou included.

You can also rely on 144 hour visa free transit and in this case, you are allowed to arrive directly from Singapore to Shenzhen and after that to travel throughout Guangdong province absolutely visa free. Anyway, you have to exit Guangdong province to some other country than Singapore. For example, you itinerary can be something like this:

Singapore - Shenzhen - Kuala Lumpur

or

Singapore - Shenzhen - Hong Kong

As you can see, you can leave Shenzhen by ferry directly to Hong Kong airport, but you will have to book a ticket for this ferry in advance. If you need some additional information, here we are.

Yes, you will have to apply and obtain a Chinese visa in advance at CVASC located in Singapore, there is no doubt about it.

As far as your ferry tickets are concerned, I suppose you were trying to book through CKS - Chu Kong Passenger transport company website. If so, you should try with your EU passport number. You should know that for Chinese authorities it is only important your citizenship and the passport you will use to travel to China and they simply don't care about the resident status of anybody anywhere.
