About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit

UK Passport traveling to Tokyo

I have a 10hr layover in Shanghai Pu Dong when travelling to Tokyo from London what kind of Visa will I need if I wanted to leave the airport?
Also on my return to London, I have a 17hr layover in Beijing, what kind of Visa will I need if I wanted to leave the airport here too?

Its eligible for 24 hour visa free transit both ways. Please note that Shanghai can be pretty strict about requiring people to stay in the airport if transit is not overnight with hotel reservation in advance. You can try your luck but entry permit to leave the international transit area of airport is not a guarantee
