About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit FAQ

What if two cities are involved in China?

Hello! We are travelling from Brisbane to London. Our flight lands in Guangzhou and we are there for 23 hours, then we fly from Guangzhou to Wuhan. We wait in Wuhan for about 20 hours and then fly to London. The booking is with China Southern. Do we qualify for the 72-hour visa exemption? Can we leave the airports and stay overnight at a local hotel? Many thanks!

You must obtain a visa in advance or change your flights. Your two landings automatically limit you to 24 hours transit without visa in China.

Does this mean that we have to have a visa, even if we stay in the airport?
Can we at least leave the airport for one of these stops for less than 24hours?
Thank you,
Martin

You must have a visa. There is no "stay in the airport" exemption. Without a visa you will certainly be refused boarding in Brisbane.
