S1 Visa

Hi! My sister is planning to visit me here in china, Im currently studying in wuhan. She plans to visit me on March and on June. Both visits does not exceeds 30 days. Is it necessary to apply for a residence permit even if the duration of visit is not more than 30 days? Thanks

A residence permit is something issued by the EEA/NIA and is only issued to those with intended continuous stays of more than 6 months. There are certain exceptions (e.g., employment) but temporary visits are not included. Your sister therefore does not need and cannot get a residence permit. She however needs to register with the police within 24 hours of arrival when staying at your place but what she gets will be a proof of registration and not a residence permit.

Application for a residence permit on an S1 visa will be allowed but that will not always be granted for the same reason, and also there are few if any cases of S1 issuance to one's siblings. If your sister has no intention to reside in China then she would be better off with an S2 visa which usually allows multiple visits.
