About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Visa needed?

I am a uk citizen, cruise is terminating Hong Kong. Then 1 night Hing Kong and fly the next day to Bejing for 3 nights, train to Xian for a further 2 nights then return Bejing 1 night and fly UK., do we have to get a tourist visa or can we travel 144 hours?

You need a tourist visa because of the visit to Xi'an. 144 hours transit without visa would only apply if you stayed in the Beijing area for the entire time in China.
