Traveling to Shenzhen with lay-overs

Hello!

I'm flying to Shenzhen from US, however, my layover lands in Chengdu but I don't plan to leave the airport. Will I have any issue getting a VOA 5-day visa? I'll technically be in China 6 days because of my lay over. My layover lands in Chengdu on 12/10 and I land in Shenzhen on 12/11 - 7PM and depart 12/15 at 10:20AM. Will i have any issue?

Danny, unfortunately, you cannot obtain a Shenzhen VOA. This is not just because you will have a layover in Chengdu, but also because there is no VOA office at Shenzhen airport. Shenzhen VOA is exclusively available when crossing from Hong Kong or Macau to Shenzhen. Leave aside what is written on this website because it is not updated. In any case, even if it was an office in Shenzhen airport, your layover in Chengdu would ruin your eligibility regardless of the fact that you will be in Chengdu just for a short time in a transit. I was also thinking about any kind of visa free transit option, but it would require that you fly from Shenzhen to some other country/territory.

For example:

US - Chengdu - Shenzhen - Taiwan

After that, immediately return to Shenzhen where you could be eligible to enjoy 144 hour visa free transit, but after that, you would have to travel by ferry to Hong Kong to fulfill the rule of this visa free transit option. In the end, you will have to take a flight from Hong Kong to Guangzhou to catch your flight from Shenzhen via Chengdu to US.

Quite complicated, but doable and if you wish, I could explain that in detail. Anyway, I think that this option would take too much time from your program that you have planned to have in Shenzhen.

Unfortunately, I can assume that you are not in possession of a Chinese visa and now you can only hope that some kind of rush service could provide you one. Anyway, I sincerely doubt that possibility since there are only two working days before your departure for China. If you cannot do that, you have to rearrange your flights or to think about the above mentioned a bit complicated visa free transit option. Simply speaking, there is no other way. Sorry.
