SEOUL - SHANGHAI - TOKYO with different tickets

My friend (Canada) and I (America) have booked a flight from Seoul to Shanghai using Eastar. Two days later, we fly out of Shanghai to Tokyo using Jetstar. They are all direct flights. We havent chosen specific seats, but if we do, will that be eligible for the 144hr Visa? Thank you!
