About:Visa on Arrival

Macau to Shenzhen VOA

Good day,

We are a group of 4 people (Austrian & Polish citizens), we plan a trip from Hongkong to Macau and then from Macau to Shenzhen by boat (arrival at Shekou port). We would stay in Shenzhen till evening and then go back to HK. Our ferry will arrive at 12:30 in Shekou port. Do we have to obtain VOA for Shenzen or just the 72 or 144 hours transit option? What would be the quickest way since I see that the VOA office is open only till 13:00?
Thanks in advance!

The only option in your case is to apply for a 5 day Shenzhen VOA. The price for both Austrian and Polish citizens is 168 CNY, preferably paid in Chinese cash that you can easily obtain at one of many Macau money changers.

You have done a good choice to choose Shekou port because it is the only one reachable by ferry that has Shenzhen VOA office. Anyway, I would suggest you to take a later ferry because the office really closes at 13:00 and opens again at 14:30. I suggest you to take a ferry that departs at 13:00 from Macau Outer harbour. If you have already booked your ticket, you will probably have to wait until 14:30, but you never know because it is possible that some of the officials will work at that very moment. Anyway, if you can, I definitely suggest you to depart from Macau by ferry departing at 13:00.

By the way, this route is not eligible for any option of visa free transit because when traveling from both Macau and Hong Kong to Guangdong province, to be eligible for any kind of visa free transit scheme is to fly.
