144h Shanghai visa

Hello,

I am living in Singapore, holding a UK passport and I am planning to do the below trip:
Singapore - Hong Kong - Shanghai - Singapore.

My Travel Agent told me that the third country has to be on the return to be able to get the 144 h visa as below:
Singapore - Shanghai - Hong Kong - Singapore.

Is this correct? I would prefer to travel first to Hong Kong and afterwards to Shanghai.

Thanks a lot for your help,
Christine

Your travel agent is incompetent. Consider using a better one in future.

Third country can be to or from China.
Flights will have to be non-stop. For example if you are flying Cathay Pacific both ways you would need a visa
For example Singapore > Hong Kong > Shanghai > Hong Kong > Singapore requires a visa even if you stay in the Hong Kong airport
