About:240-hour Visa-free Transit in Xiamen

I am flying from Amsterdam via Xiamen (change flights only) to Shanghai to Melbourne.

Can I apply for the 144h visa in Shanghai Hongqiao, or does this route not qualify?

This route definitely does not qualify because you are not allowed to have two consecutive stops within mainland China and remain eligible for 144 hour visa free transit. If you can do this route within 24 hours, counting from your scheduled landing in Xiamen, until your scheduled departure from Shanghai, then you can use 24 hour visa free transit.

By the way, using different airports in Shanghai or Beijing is perfectly allowed under every visa free transit option.
