LONDON TO BEIJING TO HANOI TO LONDON

I’m planning to travel from London to Beijing then onto Hanoi and then Hanoi back to London.
All flights on air China.

London - Beijing (direct flight)
Beijing - Hanoi (direct flight)
Hanoi - London (3 hour change over Beijing and don’t leave airport)

Am I eligible for a 144 hour visa on the routes above for Beijing?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated..

Yes, your itinerary is definitely eligible for visa free transit both ways, if you don't have any other stop within mainland China of any kind.

Your first stop in Beijing will be eligible for 24 or 144 hour visa free transit in direct relation to the length of your stay in Beijing area. If your layover will be less than 24 hours, you will be covered by 24 hours visa free transit and if your entire transit time in Beijing will be at least 1 minute longer than 24 hours, you will be eligible for 144 hour visa free transit.

Your second stop in Beijing will be obviously covered by 24 hour visa free transit because you will stay in Beijing airport for just about 3 hours.

Hi Zupan.

Thank you so much for your reply, it’s greatly appreciated.
My layover in Beijing would be around 4-5 days, before flying to Hanoi.
I will arrive in Beijing from London on 28/03/2020 6am and then fly to Hanoi from Beijing on 02/04/2020 1am.
Can you see me incurring any problems with the length of transit time? Which would be around 120 hours.

I have read that I need to inform the airline upon check in of my intention of the 144 hour visa. Then fill in a landing card showing my intention, collect my bags and then go to immigration with my British passport?
Is it really as simple as thsi?, or do I need to know any further information.

All advice will be hugely appreciated

Thank you
