About:240-hour Visa-free Transit in Beijing, Tianjin & Hebei

Beijing layover question

We have a 24 hour and 30 mini tee layover in Beijing. We fly out the next morning and have a layover in Shanghai and then on to JFK. What temporary permit am I slicks for?

You do not qualify for any "temporary permit". You must get a visa in advance or change your flights. If you are stopping in both Beijing and Shangai, you are automatically limited to 24 hours transit without visa.

If the airport before Shanghai is outside the mainland China and if Beijing is your only stop within mainland China, then you qualify for 144 hour visa free transit. You will print out your flight tickets and have those printouts with you. Also, you will declare at check-in in the country that precedes Beijing that you will travel to US via Beijing using 144 hour visa free transit. After a short inspection, you will be allowed to board the plane. Upon arrival in Beijing, you will approach 144 hour visa free transit counter where you will fill out the blue form and shortly after you will receive a sticker in your passport and you will be allowed to exit the airport.

Saul, you are absolutely right. I have overlooked "a layover in Shanghai"... My fault and your great correction. A visa is a must in this case.

Yes, if you can arrange your flights where you will have less than 24 hours, counting from your scheduled arrival in Beijing, until your scheduled departure from Shanghai, you are eligible for 24 hour visa free transit and you don't need any kind of visa.
