If you have a layover of 9 hours and want to go out of the airport, you can apply for 24-hour visa free transit at the airport. 24-hour visa free transit is qualified for the passengers transiting in mainland China for a stay of no more than 24 hours before heading for a third country or region. The required documents are the passport valid for at least 3 months from the date of entry, onward air ticket with confirmed seat and date as well as visa for a third country or region.
