About:240-Hour Visa-Free Transit in Guangdong

Moscow-Shenzhen-Taipei: Transit using 144 hour visa free transit?

Hello, your website has been very helpful.

I have booked a flight for my colleague who is a Russian national and will travel via China Southern Airlines from Moscow to Shenzhen on Sunday. The itinerary then states she will need to check in at the China Airlines kiosk to take the second flight. We interpret that she will therefore need to go through passport control, pick up bags, then re-check in, and are concerned whether this will be possible from a visa perspective.

Reading the Q&A above, I think this will be possible if she applies for a 144 hour visa free transit. She has a visa for Taiwan, so access to Taiwan is no problem, we are just concerned about this transit.

Can you help with this, or recommend someone we can contact to confirm?

You should not be concerned at all. If her itinerary is:

Moscow - Shenzhen - Taipei

And there are no other stops of any kind, she is definitely eligible for 24 or 144 hour visa free transit (this in relation to the length of her transit in Shenzhen) in Shenzhen without any doubt even if she has to collect her luggage and make a recheck for her luggage. I assume that she will have to do that since it appears, from your post, that she will change the airline from China Southern to China Airlines. Anyway, it is known that China Southern and China Airlines codeshare, so it is also possible that the luggage will be tagged all the way to Taipei, especially in case if she will travel on a single (through) ticket. In reality, she will know this detail only at check-in in Moscow. There they will tell her whether she will have to collect her luggage in Shenzhen or not.

You did not mention how long will her transit take, but I assume that it will be less than 24 hours. If I'm right, she will be eligible for 24 hour visa free transit. In case if she needs to collect her luggage and cannot remain within the transit area, she will approach the 24 hour visa free transit counter where she will apply for a temporary entry permit. This will allow her to collect her luggage and perform a recheck for a flight to Taipei. After that, she will proceed through immigration and security to her gate for China Airlines flight to Taipei.

If you need some additional clarification, here we are.
