About:24-Hour Visa-Free Transit

"Passport valid for at least 3 months from the date of entry"

Hello, what is your source on this please? Everywhere else I've read it is 6 months minimum.
I hope you are right as I only have 4 months left on current passport and I have a short transit through Shenzhen airport to get home to the UK from Japan. Thanks for the thorough guide!

It is 3 months validity in case of a transit (24, 72 or 144 hour TWOV), but 6 months if you plan to visit China on a visa.

The source is the practice of Chinese immigration and the first hand experiences of travelers using one of TWOV schemes. You will be definitely fine for your transit with your passport. Guaranteed.
