About:240-Hour Visa-Free Transit

144-hours visa eligibility

Hi,

I'm travelling on the 24-Dec from London to Beijing via Kiev (Ukraine) and arrive at Beijing on 25-Dec 2:00 am. I've planned to stay in Beijing for 4 days and then on the 29-Dec at 8:30 I'm flying to Hong Kong (which do not require visa for me). Subsequently, I'm going to Thailand for 5 days and then come back to Hong Kong on on 6-Jan and take the bullet train to Beijing to get to the airport a few hours before my flight.

I've made all these booking and have booked hotels everywhere as well.

Will this trip be covered by the 144-hour visa scheme?

Your first entry qualifies for 144 hours transit without visa. Your second entry requires a visa because travel by high speed rail does not qualify. If you fly from Hong Kong to Beijing you would qualify for transit without visa again. Also, to avoid confusion, try to use the correct terminology because "144-hour visa" does not exist. You are not getting a visa at all, but you will be in transit WITHOUT visa.

Thanks for your confirmation. On the second journey, however, I read this in your information:

Note: Passengers taking international trains to / from Moscow, Ulaanbaatar, and North Korea cannot enjoy the 144h visa-free transit in Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei zone, while those takings trains to / from Hanoi and Hong Kong are eligible.

Have I misunderstood?

Only the Kowloon-Beijing "through train" arriving at Beijing West Railway station qualifies for transit without visa.
