About:Shanghai 15-day Visa-free Policy for Cruise Tour Groups

We are going on a cruise which will spend one day in Shanghai. We depart same day from Shanghai,

then two ports in Taiwan and finish the cruise in Hong Kong. We will depart Hong Kong for Australia same day. I am Australian, my husband has a Danish passport with Permanent Residence in Australia. Will we need a visa for Shanghai or Hong Kong?

Sue, you are all eligible for 24 hour visa free transit in Shanghai area in case if your last port of call, immediately before Shanghai, is in a country that is different than both mainland China and Taiwan.

In other words, if your itinerary is something like this:

Japan - Shanghai - Taiwan
South Korea - Shanghai - Taiwan

Then you are definitely eligible for 24 hour visa free transit, but if your itinerary is something like this:

Xiamen - Shanghai - Taiwan
Tianjin - Shanghai - Taiwan
Taiwan - Shanghai - Taiwan

Then you need a Chinese visa obtained in advance.

Your definitely don't need any kind of visa for Hong Kong. Australian and Danish citizen can enter and stay in Hong Kong visa free.
