Your itinerary is definitely eligible for 24 hour visa free transit. You will print out your tickets and have them with you. Upon your check-in in Amsterdam you will declare that you will travel to Sydney via China using 24 hour visa free transit. After a short inspection of your tickets, you will be allowed to board the plane.

Upon your arrival in Beijing, you will apply for temporary entry permit that will allow you to continue your journey through China on a domestic flight. Basically this is it.
