Flying into Guangzhou, train to Hong Kong

Hello,

I am a U.S. citizen scheduled to fly into Guangzhou, with plans to take the train to Hong Kong later that day. So long as I have proof of my train ticket purchased in advance, does this qualify for TWOV? Thank you, just want to be sure!

You cannot take the high speed train, only the slow train.

Why could I only take the slow train and not the high-speed train?

Because the Mainland Chinese border control of HSR is on Hong Kong soil and for whatever reason is the only one in the entire region that is excluded from visa-free transit.
