Canada to Singapore to Beijing & Shanghai. Back to Singapore then Canada

We're planning on an Asia trip in Jan 2020. Canadian passports.
Flying into Singapore for a week then off to Beijing for 2 days and Shanghai for 4 days. We fly back to Singapore for 2 more days and then back home to Canada. The amount of time were in China falls under the 144 hours...
But do we still need a tourist visa??

You will need a tourist (L) visa for 2 reasons.

- Singapore > China > Singapore is not allowed as entry and exit country cannot be the same country.

- You cannot visit 2 Chinese transit areas on a single visa free transit.
