Can I stay in Beijing 72 hours, then go to Tokyo for 72 hours, then back to Beijing for 72 hours?

Robert, here we miss a third country!

Maybe you had in mind that you intend to use the following itinerary:

UK - Beijing - Tokyo

Tokyo - Beijing - UK

If I'm right, then you are definitely eligible for 144 hour visa free transit (72 hour TWOV was replaced by 144 hour TWOv in Beijing a couple of years ago) in Beijing twice.

Please, just keep in mind that your assumed flights from and to UK should not have any additional landing within mainland China.
