Cruise to Shanghai for 1 day - Do I need a VISA?

hi there,
I'm wondering if I need to apply for a VISA to China. We are cruising from Tokyo to Shanghai and then on wards to Sth Korea and only staying in Shanghai for 1 day (10am to 6pm). Based on what I have read so far, it seems I do not need to apply for a VISA for entry, am I correct?

If your itinerary is exactly as you have written:

Tokyo - Shanghai - South Korea

And there are no any other mainland Chinese ports of call between the mentioned itinerary, you are definitely eligible for 24 hour visa free transit in Shanghai. In other words, you really don't need any kind of visa.
