About:24-Hour Visa-Free Transit

24-hour transit visa for a cruise trip

Below is my trip:
19 June: Fly from Hochiminh city (Vietnam) to Shanghai (China)
19 June: check in Spectrum of the Sea, a cruise trip (Shanghai-Nagasaki-Kagoshima-Shanghai)
20 June: on the cruise on the sea
21 June: Nagasaki
22 June: Kagoshima
23 June: on the cruise on the sea
24 June: Shanghai
24 June: get on a flight back to Hochiminh City.
Can I apply for 24-hour transit visa on June 19 (flying to Shnaghai from Hochiminh and move to the cruise) anh June 24 (get off the cruise at Shanghai, move to airport and get a flight back to Vietnam)?
It means I do not have to apply for China tourist visa at Vietnam. Please let me know if I am right.

Your itinerary is definitely eligible for 24 hour visa free transit twice. However, you should just carefully count your total layover time in Shanghai that is always defined by your scheduled arrival into Shanghai until your scheduled departure from Shanghai. So, if your entire transit time, based on your scheduled arrival and your scheduled departure time are shorter or equal to 24 hours, you are definitely eligible for 24 hour visa free transit in Shanghai twice and you do not need any kind of visa and that means that you do not have to apply for any Chinese visa in Vietnam. You are advised to have your flight and cruise tickets printed out and at hand ready to be presented to the relevant authorities. So, upon your check-in in HCMC you will just declare that you are traveling to Japan by a cruise ship and that you will be traveling via Shanghai covered by 24 hours visa free transit and you will present them your flight/cruise ship tisckets. After a short check, you will be allowed to board the plane. Upon your arrival in Shanghai, the first thing that you will do will be to approach 24/240 hour visa free transit counter where you will apply for a temporary entry permit by presenting your flight/cruise ship tickets. Again, after a short check, you will be granted a temporary entry permit and then you will head to the immigration, to collect your luggage and to transfer to the cruise port in order to embark your cruise ship. The procedure for your return is practically the same. Have a nice journey and your cruise, of course.
