Unfortunately, your itinerary is not a transit, so none of the visa free transit schemes cannot be used. You are in a visit to China, so you will have to obtain a Chinese tourist (L) visa in advance.

In case if you have not booked your tickets, you can combine Vancouver because it is in Canada (third country) and become eligible. For example, an itinerary:

Vancouver - Shanghai - Seattle

or

Seattle - Shanghai - Vancouver

Would be eligible for 144 hour visa free transit.
