Transit free visa 144 hours or 6 days

I a flying to Guangzhou on 20th August morning 6:00 am then flying to USA on 26th 9:00 pm . I like to visit Guangzhou and Beijing as vacation . Can do this without visa . We are USA Citizens as family . Also my father and mother travel to Bangkok same day same time with us visiting China . Do we need visa or transit visa will work for 144 hours .

Since you are not in a transit and your itinerary is:

US - mainland China - US

You need a Chinese visa obtained in advance. Having a visa will allow you to visit both Guangzhou and Beijing during your stay in China.

The situation with your parents is totally different because they will have the following itinerary:

US - Guangzhou - Bangkok

This is a real transit where the third country is present as it is in the above mentioned itinerary. So, they will be eligible for 144 hour visa free transit in Guangzhou.

Anyway, your parents have to take care that their flights to/from Guangzhou don't have any additional landing within mainland China.
