I have a question about time in between flights in T1 at Shanghai Pudong Airport

If I'm flying with no checked luggage, flying all on South China Airways, flying into T1 from Australia then out of T1 to USA, can I book a flight with an hour changeover time? Do I need to clear customs or immigration or can I just go to my next gate? Thank you.
