About:24-Hour Visa-Free Transit

US Citizen traveling US -> Nanjing -> Kunming -> Bangladesh

Hi! I am flying with China Eastern, from US to Bangladesh, with TWO stops in China, and each layover is quite long: 17hrs in Nanjing, 22hrs in Kunming. I am not eligible for 72Hr TWOV because there are TWO stops. I am not eligible for 24Hr TWOV, because total time is more than 24Hrs. However, My question is, can I claim 24Hrs for only ONE of the cities (for example, Nanjing), and just stay in the transit area for the other layover (won't exit transit area inside the airport at Kunming). Or does this not work?

When I return from Bangladesh to US, there are still two layovers in China, but total time is 16hrs (so I can claim 24Hr TWOV here). So, my question is about the US-Bangladesh portion of the trip.

I understand. This is what I was afraid of. Okay, so since it isn't less than 24hrs (it is actually exactly 42hrs), it is my understanding that I need to apply for a visa. Thank you for your help.

Sorry that is not an option, visa is required. There is no i just wont leave the transit area exception. Your scheduled departure from Kunming, must be under 24 hours of scheduled arrival in Nanjing
