Flying into China for 72 Hours

Hi there, I'm flying into PVG for three days and returning to the USA. Am I eligible for the 72 hrs visa free travel period?

Brett, you didn't mention from where will you arrive in Shanghai. Anyway, assuming that you have written "returning to the US" I'm free to think that you intend to fly US - PVG - US. If I'm right, you cannot do that and remain eligible for visa free transit in China because this is considered to be a transit. In order to be eligible, you have to add a third country in your itinerary to look something like this:

US - Canada - PVG - US or
US - PVG - Hong Kong - US

With the above mentioned itineraries you would be eligible for 144 hours visa free transit. Keep in mind that 144 hours has replaced 72 hours in Shanghai a couple of years ago.
