About:Visa on Arrival

VOA Shenzhen: when to apply it / when to leave?

I'm from France. I plan to go to SZ end of July with 5-days visa on arrival.

Can I take the flight the weekend, arrive at Bao'an airport on Monday and THEN get the VOA there for 5 days, until Saturday 23:59' ?

Thank you for your answer. Do you know how specifically I get the VOA once arrived at the airport for my French passport ?

For the visa-free transit of 144H with Hong Kong as destination (example), I don't know how can I find such transit span for SZ? And mainly, if I'll be able to return home once in Hong Kong then (it seems a little tedious to arrive at HK just to go back home at the airport). I don't read Chinese currently also.

So how can I apply to the 144 visa-free transit in SZ (to Hong Kong) ? Can I go back in France the day I arrive in Hong Kong, after the transit in SZ?

Vincent, in case that you intend to depart from SZ to a country (Hong Kong and Macau are eligible too) different than the country that you came to SZ, I would suggest you to apply for 144 hours visa free transit. You can stay for a longer period, you can travel all over the Guangdong province and and it's free of charge while with 5 day VOA you can stay only within SZ Special Economic Zone.

By the way, your calculation is correct because the 5 days start counting from 00:00 (00:01) the day following the entry date. This is in case of 5 day VOA, but in case of 144 hours visa free transit, you can stay exactly one day more.

So, when you know your options, it's up to you to make a choice.

Of course... This is the advantage of SZ. For example, you will arrive in SZ by direct flight from France... You will stay in SZ or in Guangzhou or in any other part of Guangdong province for 5 or 6 days, but you will have to decide on that before your departure from France. You will take a ferry directly from SZ to Hong Kong International Airport and depart from there home to France. You will also book a ferry in advance. Think about it. Much better option than a return ticket with VOA that is very limited.
