About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit

US to China

I'm flying from the US to PEK (Beijing), will only be staying 48 hours max, and then returning back to the US. Do I need to have a Visa or am I able to stay 72 or 144 hours Visa free? Do I need to check in with the local police or do anything special upon arrival?

Yes, of course you need a visa, or different flights. That’s a visit to China and not a transit. You must register with the police, but if you stay in a hotel they will do that automatically for you.
