About:24-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Hong Kong - SZ trip

Hi, thanks for this info - very helpful! Is it possible for me to go into SZ from HK (where I have a permanent residence card, but not a citizen) as a day trip on this 24hr visa? I understand HK can be country A or C in your example. But can it be both A and C (technically not a transit?)

Thank you

Assuming you are not a US/Canadian/Brazilian/Israeli/Argentinian citizen (i.e., those who qualify for either 5 or 10-year visas), permanent HKID holders qualify for a 3-year tourist visa regardless of nationality but you can also get a VOA at Luohu. Note that unless your passport is visa-exempt, you will always require a visa to visit China. The visa-free transit deals only with those in transit to a third country/territory.

I am a UK citizen. I think the embassy here does allow 5 and 10 year visa applications. So would I be able to still apply for the 3 year visa?

And the VOA - can I get this only at Lo Wu, or can I get it at Lok Ma Chau or maybe (if I take the high speed train into SZ) at arrival in SZ Futian? I would prefer to take the high speed train if I can get a VOA via that route. Thanks so much again

IIRC British citizens can only get 2-year visas outside the UK (the 5 or 10-year visa requires applications to be made within the UK). The 3-year Visa is a year longer than the ordinary 2-year validity and should be the same cost.

As for the VOA the only place that has them for sure is Luohu. Some reports indicate that Futian/Lok Ma Chau no longer has an office. (Huanggang is equally inconsistent.) Keep in mind that they intermittently check for Turkish stamps and will impose other ridiculous requirements (e.g., have to bring old passport if your current one is issued within the last 3-5 years). You won't know what will hit you until you show up.
