About:240-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Shenzhen 144 hr. visa free

Can I get a 144 hrs. visa free to Shenzhen traveling from Hong Kong as a US passport holder ?

No as you must fly into Shenzhen but there are no flights between HK and Shenzhen as the airports are too close.

VOAs are a huge waste of money considering you can buy a 10-year Visa with the same amount of $ when applying in the US.

The alternative is to fly from Hong Kong to Guangzhou. This will make you eligible for 144 hours visa free transit, but keep in mind that you have to return from mainland China first to Macau and then to Hong Kong in order to satisfy the rules of transit. Of course, you can apply for Shenzhen 5 day VOA, but the price is about 120 USD, so quite high and also limits you to stay just within Shenzhen Special Economic Zone.

US citizens are charged 956 RMB.

Also, as far as the helicopter services are concerned, they will cover mainly private and business aviation (PBA) missions, consequently, they are not eligible for visa free transit purposes because visa free transit requires only scheduled transport services.

There are helicopter flights from Hong Kong airport and city to Shenzhen airport witch would make you eligible for the 144-hour visa-free transit. However, there is another option. US citizens can apply for a 5-day visa on arrival at the land border and the ferry ports between Hong Kong and Shenzhen as well as Shenzhen airport. The Visa on Arrival cost varies depending on nationality. I believe Americans are charged 168 RMB while British citizens pay 304 RMB.
