Mark and Tina... You are both eligible for 24 hours visa free transit in case:
- That your time from your first scheduled arrival in China, in your case in Changsha, until your second scheduled departure from China, in your case from Guangzhou, is less than 24 hours.
As you can see, this is all that matters along with the fact that you have to be in transit, of course and you are. There is no limit of stops or the question of citizenship or a type of ticket or airline or something else... This is all irrelevant and only thing that counts is your time spent in China and that is 24 hours.
By the way, you will not travel on any kind of visa, but you will be covered by 24 hours visa free (without visa) transit. You should use correct terminology to avoid any misunderstandings. Mark, you can, of course, travel via China on your way back from the Philippines and in this case too, you should take care of the entire time needed to perform your transit. Also, both of you should know that in case of just one stop in China, in most cities you would be qualified for 72 or 144 hours visa free (without visa) transit.
