About:240-Hour Visa-Free Transit in Guangdong

Arrive at Guangzhou Airport, leave at the border Shenzhen-Hong Kong (e.g. Luohu)

I want to land in CAN and leave mainland China via one of the border checkpoints between Shenzhen and Hong Kong. How would I make clear that I leave mainland China?

Dear ZUPAN, thanks for the answer.

My plan was flying from the Netherlands to Baiyun Airport. Then visit GZ and Shenzhen within 6 days. Then I want to leave Guangdong province by foot via Huanggang port or Luohu port to Hong Kong (third "country"/region for immigration purposes). Is this possible? Because what do I show to the airline and at the office at the Baiyun Airport? I do not need a ticket to leave by using those ports.

Without an confirmed onward ticket I would expect the airline to deny you boarding in the Netherlands.

There is also the high speed train to West Kowloon station, is this also an option?

The best and simplest option is to fly from Guangzhou to Hong Kong.

Yi, I assume that you plan to arrive at Baiyun airport from some other country different than mainland China and after that to make a transit to Hong Kong, aren't you? If I'm right, you have to plan to postpone your transit to Hong Kong for at least 25 hours after your arrival in GZ. The reason is simple... You are not allowed to use 24 hours visa free transit between GZ and Shenzhen airports and Hong Kong and Macau. Basically, you will have to use 144 hours visa free transit and it means at least 25 hours of stay within Guangdong province.

You will make clear to all it whom may concern that you will exit Guandong province by using a ferry from Shenzhen Shekou port to Hong Kong Macau Ferry Terminal in Hong Kong by providing your ferry ticket that you will buy online in advance at CKS - Chu Kong Passenger Transport Company website. This is the solution in case that you will have some job to do in Shenzhen, but much easier way is to buy your train ticket online in advance, but only on GZ–Kowloon through train that departs from East railway station and arrives at Hung Hom railway station in Hong Kong. You can buy tickets online in advance on Guangdong Line Schedule - MTR Intercity Through Train website.

Please, keep in mind that you HAVE TO travel exactly by the ferry or train that you have bought your ticket for.

As Judd has written, you really cannot do that because you simply HAVE TO have a confirmed ticket at the very moment of check-in for your flight to Guangzhou. Actually, it is possible to obtain online, in advance train and ferry tickets, so it's up to you to choose your preferred option. From Guangzhou the best option is train and from Shenzhen a ferry from Shekou port.

Judd has totally right. You simply have to take or a train or a ferry as explained above because only the confirmed tickets are relevant for materializing your right to be granted 144 hours visa free transit in Guangdong province. Bus would be an option, but simply speaking, there are no websites where you can book a ticket for such a service before your arrival in China, so you just have to forget about this option at least until one or more agile bus operators realize that he/she could secure nice number of booked seats by selling them online for international booking. Until then, train or ferry... Or flying, of course.

Yes, in case that you can print out the confirmation where it will be visible that you will be the user of the ticket and also that the ticket is paid in full and also with the visible time of departure. Please, you should remember that only the printouts (hard copy) are treated as valid document and nobody will even make the slightest effort to look something at the screen of your smartphone.

No, it is not possible to use the high speed train to/from West Kowloon station for 144 hours visa free transit purposes. It is only GZ–Kowloon through train and ferry (3 eligible ports: Port of Guangzhou, Nansha Port and Lianhuashan Port) if traveling from Guangzhou and ferry from Shekou and Fuyong ports if traveling from Shenzhen.
