About:240-hour Visa-free Transit in Chengdu

US-Tokyo-Chengdu-Korea-US

Does this route work and will it matter that the U.S. is the starting and endpoint on the same ticketed reservation?

Also, any idea where I can print out an arrival/departure card so that we can fill it out in advance? We have some young people traveling on their own. Thanks!

Yes, this itinerary is definitely eligible for 144 hours visa free transit. The fact that the first and the last points are in US does not change the eligibility of your itinerary because only the immediate points before and after your destination in China matter. In reality, for Chinese authorities, your itinerary is: Tokyo - CD - South Korea.

As far as the arrival/departure cards are concerned, please, just be relaxed because they will receive a yellow one on board the plane and after the landing, they will fill out the blue form. This is very easy and straightforward process for English speaking travelers.
