Shanghai 144h visa free issues

Hi,

my brother wants to visit me as he is currently in Thainland.
So his flight is thainland - shanghai- philipines which should work out!

So the questions is if he can stay in my apartment for his time in Shanghai or does he need to go to a Hotel and also is it enough to get the flight itinerary for his flight to the philipines as currently he cant do a online check in to get a seat assigned but it shows that the flight is confirmed and paid. thanks
