Cruise from Shanghai, Would a 144 hour transit Visa be ok for this trip.

I'm flying into Shanghai from the UK staying 3 nights then going on a cruise around Japan for 8 days. The cruise ends back in Shanghai but because my return flight to the UK is not until after midnight on the day we dock I have to spend a day in Shanghai. Would a 144 hour transit Visa be ok for this trip. Would appreciate your help.
