As a US citizen, do I need a visa for a 7 days cruise that starts in Shanghai and ends there too?

Is it an international cruise tour? Like you will fly from US to Shanghai, cruise to Japan, back to Shanghai and fly back to US? If yes, then you do not need a visa, because you will be eligible for 240-hour visa free transit, twice.1
