Transit visa questions with a group of mnors

Here's our flight:
JFK -- PVG (3 days) -- Seoul/Korea (10 days) -- JFK

Are we allowed to transit at Shanghai without a travel visa? We are all US citizens.

If YES, the next question is, we are traveling as a high student group with teachers. Are minors without parents allowed to transit? Is there a document we need to ensure we won't have a problem at Shanghai Pudong airport?

Thanks for the reply. Ours is a direct flight from New York to Shanghai, and then to Seoul after 3 days. So in this case, we do not need a Chinese travel visa?

I will check with the Chinese Consulate with the travel with minors. Thanks.

In case that your first flight from New York to Shanghai is nonstop or does not have a landing in South Korea before reaching Shanghai, your itinerary is perfectly eligible for 144 hours visa free travel.

As far as your second questions is concerned, I would suggest you to make a contact with nearest Chinese diplomatic mission.

Your flight itinerary is perfectly eligible for 144 hours visa free travel, but you should have in mind and recheck whether your flight from New York to Shanghai has a landing (layover) in South Korea. That would not be allowed for 144 hours visa free travel.

Regarding your second question, I would suggest you to contact the nearest Chinese diplomatic mission.

No, you don't need a Chinese visa of any kind. I hope that everything will be just fine regarding the travel of minors and I assume that there will not be any annoying procedure.
