Cruise from Canada Japan to Shanghai to USA

Our cruise begins in Canada, and ends in Shanghai. After the cruise ends, we are planning 5 days to sightsee in Shanghai and then fly home to USA. Does this qualify for the 144 visa free transit?

Lester, if you are sure that you will have no any other landing within mainland China, you qualify for the 144-hour visa-free travel.

We are US citizens. The cruise on the Westerdam first goes to stops in Japan and then goes to ports in China, including an overnight in Beijing, and ends in Shanghai. We are extending our trip to spend 5 days in Shanghai at a hotel and then flying back to the US. Does this qualify for the 144 hour visa free travel?
