As a UK citizen you are eligible for 3 days Zhuhai VOA (visa on arrival). This is not a visa free transit, but a real visa, although fairly easy to obtain. The best location to obtain visa is the crossing located in the northernmost part of Macau, i.e. administrative crossing called Portas do Cerco / Gongbei. The procedure is fairly easy and the visa is issued within 10 to 15 minutes. The only drawback for UK citizens is the fact that the price of visa is 304 CNY. This is higher than for other citizenship, but the reason why this price is so high for UK citizens is based on a reciprocal basis. Usual price for other citizenship is 168 and for US citizens 956 CNY, again based on reciprocity.
