About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit

144 hr China Free Visa

Thanks ZUPAN for your encouraging reply.
After 2 hotel nights in Shanghai, I board the cruise ship and sail for Busan, South Korea, then a couple of other (Non China) ports, before heading for Australia.
However the ship does stop for the day at Hong Kong.
Will that affect the 144 hour visa free situation? Also, am I correct in thinking I need to inform Heathrow Airport check in, that I am applying for the 144 hour pass and will they know what I am talking about. ?
I need to know that all will be good, otherwise I will not book the cruise.
Thank you
Vic

You are definitely fine and you can book your cruise. Hong Kong is considered as a third country (territory) when we talk about 144 visa free transit. To conclude, everything that matters is that your flight to Shanghai will be from London (UK), you will arrive in Shanghai (China) and depart for a third destination that is different from both UK and China. The formula of 144 hours visa free transit: A - B - C is satisfied.

At the day of your departure you will inform the staff working at check-in counter about your intention to use 144 hours visa free transit and if it happens that they are not familiar with this rule, they will ask their superiors for sure and you will get your boarding pass. Usually, the staff at check-in is very well informed, especially at big airports and especially at the airports handling so many passengers for China. Heathrow airport is undoubtedly among them. Please, just have your boarding documents for a cruise printed and at hand to show them to the relevant authorities, both in UK and China.

Trust me, you can really travel with peace of mind.
