About:Beijing Capital International Airport

Not sure if I have enough time to go from Beijing Capital Airport terminal 1 to Terminal 3

I am arriving from Newark,NJ USA via flight# CA-982 at 18:20 and based on the ticket I need to be at Terminal 3 to depart on flight # CA-979 at 19:35 to Bangkok. I am not sure how to go there and do I have enough time to make it.

Will be traveling only with a carry on bag and no checked baggage.
Do I need to clear customs/Immigration?

Kindly advise what is the best and the fastest way to make this journey.

If you purchase the interline tickets, then you can catch the flight. If not, I am afraid that the time is not enough. Generally speaking, 1.5 to 2 hours will be suitable. You need to clear customs/immigration. For the terminal building transfer, you can take the free shuttle bus or just walk from T1 to T3.
