About:10-year China Visa

Not sure I am understanding the 10 year visa (or any long term visa)

Hi,

I am Canadian. I have no family ties or relations to China. I have always been under the impression that I can apply solely for a tourist visa, which gives me a 90 day stay in China. If I wanted a longer stay, I would have to apply, let's say, in my case, for a 12 month student visa (assuming that I am going to study in China of course and I have an admission letter from the university) or some kind of work permit/visa (assuming that I got a job offer from a Chinese company, etc...). Otherwise, as a Canadian, there was no way for me to retire or remain long-term in China.

I would love to stay long-term in China. Can I therefore take the 10 year visa route? Sorry if it has been explained here, but I am not understanding how this visa works and whether I can use it (by the way, I am renewing my Canadian passport this summer and it will have a 10 year duration).

Thank you.

Yes, if you want to stay longer in China, like for more than 90 days, 10-year L visa cannot satisfy you as the duration of each entry is 90 days. If you want to retire in China, I think you need to work long-term in China, or have a long-term marriage with a Chinese citizen, by which you can apply for a long-term residency.
